Orange wine experience

  1. Denavolo Catavela vino bianco 2021, 25% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Marsanne, 25% Ortugo, 25% 當地品種,Piacenza area, Emilia-Romagna.
  2. Costadilà Móz Vino Bianco Frizzante 2012, Glera, Moscato fior d’arancio.
  3. Denavolo Dinavolino Bianco 2021, 50% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Marsanne, 25% Ortugo,
  4. Denavolo Mansano Vino Bianco 2012, 100% Sauvignon Blanc, 喝到這款的當下,有個很可以分享的moment, 覺得這不是我的菜,酒值很優,but not from my world,看了葡萄品種,果然!!!!

Orange Wine Experience

Orange wine, let’s say it’s long skin contact white wine. Though it’s not my usual choice, when I encounter something delicious, I still cherish it. For example, all the ones I tasted this time were great! At the same time, I must say that grape variety plays a significant role. Sometimes you might not see its character that well, but it does show its magia. For instance, among the six I tried, four had a high proportion of Malvasia di Candia Aromatica. This aromatic grape variety brings such rich and complex flavors to the wines, whether in aroma or taste. So, understanding the grape variety a bit adds more depth to the experience.

  • Denavolo Catavela vino bianco 2021, 25% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Marsanne, 25% Ortugo, 25% local varieties, Piacenza area, Emilia-Romagna. Sweet aromas, quite adorable, like dried tangerine peel, loquats, and the scent of plum candy from a Chinese herbal shop. Sweetness like candied fruit, but with a dry, refreshing aftertaste. Very easy to drink and comfortable.
  • Costadilà Móz Vino Bianco Frizzante 2012, Glera, Moscato fior d’arancio. This wine making method, known as Col Fondo, intentionally leaves the sediment, embracing the natural flavors and style dating back to 1895 in Veneto. Bottle-fermented sparkling wine. Found the flavors somewhat familiar – turned out to be Moscato.
  • Denavolo Dinavolino Bianco 2021, 50% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Marsanne, 25% Ortugo. An advanced version of the first one, with a more prominent floral scent. Delicate and elegant with hints of freshness, such as citrus, sage, and a faint mineral undertone. Very intriguing and complex herbal aroma. The sweetness is less obvious, suitable for someone like me, not quite a young girl. Ended up taking bottle home 😛.
  • Denavolo Mansano Vino Bianco 2012, 100% Sauvignon Blanc. At the moment of tasting this, there was a noteworthy moment. I felt that it’s not my thing, though the quality is excellent. But not from my world. I looked at the grape variety and voila! Haha! Even though this one doesn’t taste like Sauvignon Blanc at all, the herbal flavors are intense, with a subtle hint of spices. You’d only get the guava mixed with licorice powder aroma after swallowing the liquid. A definite tricky one for a blind tasting.
  • Dinavolo vino bianco 2021, 50% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 25% Marsanne, 25% Ortuno. Thought this was probably a very representative wine for the winery. It’s basically a combination of wine 1 + wine 3, magnifying their individual characteristics. It contains citrus, laurel leaf, white floral aromas, dried fruits, herbs, and a mineral finish. No wonder they used this name Dinavolo, an ancient name for the village.
  • Finally, it arrived at the much-anticipated La Stoppa Ageno 2020, 90% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, 10% Ortugo and Trebbiano. Sweet aromas of honey, nectarine, peach, combined with herbal, white floral, and wild ginger flower notes. High acidity, yet I didn’t feel overwhelmed while continuously sipping. It has a wood character, more inclined towards fruity flavors. Feels creamy on the palate.
